Split Hem Pants and Slouchy Sweater Look for Fall
There are really only so many ways to reinvent a garment (or so it seems), especially when it comes to black or dark navy pants, but I think there have been a few trends lately breaking through the mold and introducing an element of something new to the mix. Often, when these types of trends emerge, they catch on like wildfire, and such was the case with split-hem pants. I personally held off for a while as I’m more into the practical hems like straight leg and skinny, with occasional hem distress like fraying – but I was very curious about the look and fit, so I decided to check them out and style them. They were a super hot trend for Spring – as per Vogue, and transitioned into Fall with heavier fabrics.
For today’s post, I styled a pair by Wardrobe NYC for a simple & cozy (and chic) Fall Look:
Here are the exact ingredients to this outfit formula, and how I styled it:
- The Side Zip Leggings. This pair by Wardrobe NYC is very stretchy, but made of a heavier, performance-like fabric – so they fit very well, and are very high waisted. The hem zipper allows you to adjust the amount of leg you want to expose, lending itself well to different kinds of shoes/boots. I think one aspect of these trendy pants that I really like is their ability to break up the pant length visually for full-length pants by adding a little relief to the eye with showing a sliver of shoes or skin – which helps both elongate one’s legs, and looks elegant & polished.
- A Slouchy Sweater. I styled these legging pants with this just perfectly slouchy oversized Bruzzi Crewneck Cashmere Sweater by Loulou Studios in a bright pink color. Pink isn’t typically a Fall/Winter color, which is why I love using it in those months even more for an extra pop of excitement and fun. This sweater also comes in a few neutral tones like black, gray and camel brown – I’ve included them in the carousel below for your shopping convenience.
- A Fun Bag. This Bottega Veneta Chain Pouch Shoulder Bag has also been trending lately. The large gold chain makes the bag look glam & red-carpet ready, and I love this fun burgundy color to coordinate with the pink of the sweater (a concept called “linking” in styling that helps an outfit feel cohesive).
- My 2nd Most Worn Heeled booties. These Phillip Lim Alexa Booties make a statement with any look – because of their leopard print, and double-sided zippers. I think they add a playful touch to this otherwise simple & bold ensemble.
I hope this inspires you to try out a similar outfit this Fall! As always, please feel free to share the outfits you create via Instagram, using hashtag #ModnitsaOutfit in your posts, and I’ll be sure repost them on my stories!
